What should you do if you've been selected for verification? Act fast and contact your College as well as your College Access Coordinator to help you through this process.
Once you've submitted your FAFSA certain students may be selected for verification. You will receive notification via your Student Aid Report, from PHEAA, or ,it's most common, directly from the Financial Aid office of the schools you have applied.
Verification sounds scary, but it's simply a review process schools use to confirm the information reported on your FAFSA is accurate. This does not mean you have done something wrong. All you need to do is provide the requested documentation by the school's deadline, or you will not be able to get financial aid.
How will I be notified?
By a letter in the mail, an email, or on the school's portal. Make sure you're constantly reading your emails and checking the portal for updates regarding financial aid. You will have the most accurate and up-to-date info by directly communicating with the financial aid office.
What are the required documents?
A worksheet, which varies by school, in which you fill out all the information about you, your parent(s), members in your household and income. There may also be a space for you to provide additional information you wish to share with the school.
Depending on the school, you may have to submit a copy of your and your parent's tax transcript. You can request a tax transcript and Non-Filing Letter online directly from the IRS.
Here's an example of verification worksheet for CCP.
